Clallam County Property Tax Assessment Process

Washington requires all property to be assessed at 100% of fair market value under RCW 84.40. The Clallam County Assessor appraises both real and personal property each year. Real property includes land and buildings. Personal property includes business equipment and machinery. Each business in the county must file an annual personal property listing with the Assessor.

Tax relief programs available in Clallam County include destroyed property claims, home improvement exemptions, open space and current use classification, and senior and disabled exemption and deferral programs. Paying Clallam County Property Taxes

The Clallam County Treasurer acts as the bank for the county, school districts, fire districts, and other local government units. Responsibilities include receipting, disbursing, investing, and accounting for funds, plus compiling monthly financial reports. Property tax due dates follow the standard Washington schedule: first half is due April 30, second half is due October 31 per RCW 84.56.020. In-person payments are accepted between 9 AM and 3 PM daily. The office accepts cash, credit cards, debit cards, certified checks, money orders, and personal checks. Electronic payments (debit, credit, or e-check) are available online through Invoice Cloud or through the Parcel and Tax Property Search page via ACI. Phone payments go through ACI Payments at 800-272-9829 using Clallam County Jurisdiction Code 5603. Per RCW 36.29.190, the county cannot absorb the convenience fee for electronic transactions.

A secure payment drop box is located in the courthouse roundabout. A wall-mounted drop box is to the right of the Treasurer's office door. Do not use post-dated checks; they will be deposited upon receipt. If a check is returned, the taxpayer is responsible for any returned check fees. If the first half of personal property taxes is delinquent, state law requires the full year to be paid in full. The half-payment option no longer applies in that situation.
