Kittitas County Treasurer and Tax Payments

Property tax payments for Kittitas County go to the Treasurer's office at 205 W 5th Ave STE 102, Ellensburg, WA 98926. Hours are 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. The Treasurer also has a branch in Upper Kittitas County at 700 E 1st St in Cle Elum, which accepts payments from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Tuesdays and Fridays in April and October.

Taxes are due in two halves. The first half must be paid or postmarked by April 30. The second half is due October 31 if the first half was paid on time. Parcels with a total tax and assessment of $50 or less must be paid in full by April 30. You can pay by check (made out to Kittitas County Treasurer), or online by credit card, debit card, or eCheck through the county's payment portal. Online convenience fees apply: 2.5% for credit cards, 0.95% for debit cards, and $2.00 flat for eCheck. NSF checks are assessed a $35.00 fee per Resolution 2024-013.

Taxes may be paid under protest per RCW 84.56. The Washington State Department of Revenue website has information on the requirements for tax protest payments. Kittitas County Auditor and Recorded Documents

The Kittitas County Auditor's Recording Division handles deeds, real estate contracts, liens, mortgages, and other instruments affecting title. The office is at 205 W 5th Suite 105, Ellensburg, WA 98926. Call 509-962-7504 or email recording@co.kittitas.wa.us for recording questions.

Documents become public upon filing and are indexed with a unique filing number. An official records search is available online, though online payments for copies are not currently offered. Search fees run $8.00 per hour per name with a one-hour minimum. Certified copies cost $3.00; regular copies are $1.00. Nonstandard documents that don't meet state standards under RCW 36.18.010 may be recorded for an additional $50.00 fee. The Auditor also holds birth and death records from 1891 to 1907 and marriage records from 1884 to present for Kittitas County.
