Yakima County Treasurer and Property Tax Payment

Yakima County Treasurer Ilene Thomson oversees billing and collection for all property taxes in the county. The 2026 tax statements were scheduled to be mailed during the week of February 9, 2026. First-half taxes are due by April 30. Second-half taxes are due October 31. A new drive-thru facility for property tax payments is located at 217 N. 1st St. and is open 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (cash and check only; bring your tax statement).

Checks must be payable to Yakima County Treasurer. Payments are sorted by Federal Postmark under RCW 1.12.070 to determine the payment date. Postage meter dates do not comply. Two-party checks and postdated checks are not accepted.

Convenience fees apply: eCheck costs $0.50 per transaction, credit card charges 2.35 percent with a $2.00 minimum, and Visa or MasterCard personal debit cards are $3.95 flat. Delinquent accounts accrue interest at 0.75 percent per month for residential real property with four or fewer units, and 1 percent per month for all other parcels. Penalties of 3 percent are assessed June 1 and 8 percent on December 1 for applicable properties. Real property foreclosure begins May 1 for taxes delinquent three or more years. A $35 fee is charged for all bank-returned items.

Yakima Property Tax Exemptions

Seniors, individuals retired due to disability, and veterans with disabilities may qualify for property tax reduction. To qualify based on 2024 income, gross household income must have been under $45,000. Eligibility requirements are set by state law under RCW Chapter 84.36, and applications are filed through the Yakima County Assessor's office. The exemption can freeze the taxable value of your home or reduce the assessed value used to calculate taxes, depending on the income bracket.
